How do I configure Activdriver 3 to recognise my USB ActivBoard?
Applicable To
Windows XP
Activdriver v5.4.6
All ActivBoards connected by USB
Problem Description
Using Windows XP, a USB ActivBoard is not interactive. The Activdriver system tray icon has a red cross through it. The device manager will display a 'USB Human Interface Device' with an 'Error Code 10' problem. And the software will show a watermark with the message 'Promethean Hardware Not Detected'.
This will only happen if your Activdriver is older than the v4 Activdriver that is currently available from the Promethean website. A quick solution is to uninstall your current Activdriver and install the newest version.
If you have the latest version installed but don't have administrative rights on your computer, please contact your IT support to check the Activdriver has installed correctly on your PC.
Solution
1. Connect the ActivBoard USB cable to the computer, ensure the ActivBoard is powered. Check that you have already installed the Activdriver by going to the Windows Start Menu -> Control Panel (classic view) > Add or Remove Programs. Once the list populates the Activdriver will be displayed toward the top, if it is installed. Another way of checking if a driver is installed is by running the Activdriver setup from the CD or from our website. If unsure, insert your software CD and choose the Activdriver install.
2. Go to the system device manager [Start Menu -> Control Panel (Classic View) -> System -> Hardware -> Device manager].
3. Right click the USB Human Interface Device.
4. Choose 'Update Driver'.
5. If asked 'Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?' Choose 'No, not this time'.
6. Click 'Next'.
7. Choose to 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)'.
8. Click 'Next'.
9. Choose 'Don't search, I will choose the driver to install'.
10. Click 'Next'.
